When making this soap, I used 1/4 of the batch for color and poured a 1” deep base. If I ever use this technique again, I’ll use more soap for the colors and less for the base (3/4” max deep base).

*** RECIPE *** (More details in my blog post listed above)
Olive Oil – 42%
Coconut Oil – 25%
Sustainable Palm Oil - 15%
Sunflower Oil – 10%
Avocado Oil – 8%
Superfat – 5%
For a palm free version, substitute 10% shea butter & 5% cocoa butter in place of the palm oil. When using the palm free version, I soap at 90º to 95º to avoid false trace.
Essential Oil Blend:
Rosemary - 4 parts
Peppermint - 1 part
Lye - use a soap calculator like the one at Majestic Mountain Sage: http://goo.gl/7hH5Vw
I used a 31% lye solution (water = 2.2 x lye)
COLORS:
BLACK
Activated Charcoal - 1 tsp dispersed into 1 tbsp of sunflower oil
I used 1 tbsp of this mixture per cup of soap
BLUE
Indigo Root Powder - 0.5 tsp dissolved in 2 tsp of sunflower oil - sit overnight (Amy Warden’s method - http://goo.gl/EaD5qi)
I used 1 tsp per cup of soap for dark blue & 0.25 tsp per cup of soap for light blue
ORANGE
Paprika powder - 1 tsp dispersed in 1 tbsp sunflower oil - sit overnight so the paprika sinks to the bottom
I used 2 tsp per cup of soap
PURPLE
Alkanet root powder - infused oil - I used 3 tsp per cup of soap
PALE YELLOW
Safflower infused olive oil (2 tsp per cup of soap) plus 0.25 tsp paprika infused oil per cup of soap
(I would have preferred annatto seed infused sunflower oil, but I was out)
