Now that we've finished the hard work of calculating our deflections, in this video, we're going to plot them in our Jupyter Notebook using Plotly.

Estimating beam deflections is an important part of the analysis process and is essential for serviceability design. To calculate deflections by hand can be a time-consuming and error-prone process. Even when using standard formulas and relying on the principle of superposition, it can still be tedious.
In this video series, we’re going to extend our Shear Force and Bending Moment Diagram Calculator to also calculate Beam Deflections. We’ll use numerical integration to process the bending moment diagram and use it to generate a deflected shape. We’ll be able to calculate deflections for beams subject to:
✅ Point Loads
✅ Point Moments
✅ Uniformly Distributed Loads
✅ Linearly Varying Distributed Loads
After completing this mini Python Project - you’ll have a helpful and timesaving little tool!
You don’t need to be a Python programmer to work through this project. You can pick up the basics of programming in Python by working through this project.
Here’s a quick overview video from one of my courses that talks you through getting the Jupyter Notebook Dev environment set up on your computer:
