Youtube Copyright Match Tool Being Rolled Out to Smaller Creators on Pilot Program
I noticed an e-mail in my inbox the other day about Youtube rolling out the Copyright Match Tool to my Channel.
For anyone who hasn't heard me talk about this before, a big problem on Youtube is people stealing popular Youtube videos and reuploading them as their own. This is an issue because A. they are stealing Youtube ad money from you and B. many of them will use the videos to promote various CPA offers, courses and affiliate programs and it kind of makes it look as if the person who created the video is promoting the garbage they are linking to.
I knew at 100,000 Subscribers larger channels had access to this tool. That's why it's so easy for movie studios, record labels etc to take down infringing videos. For smaller creators however we were not given this tool and had to manually search Youtube trying to find people uploading our content which is both difficult and time consuming.
With this new tool Youtube is automatically going to find reuploads of your videos and notify you of them. At that point you can choose what action you'd like to take. You can contact the channel and ask them to take it down or to at least link back to you and give you credit. You can also request Youtube take down the video and typically within a couple hours you'll find the video has been removed from Youtube.
Apparently this is just a small pilot program right now but I imagine if it goes well this tool will be rolled out to all monetized channels which will be really cool. If you want to see if it's been rolled out to you check out your new creator studio backend dashboard.
