Planning a route requiring charging stops while you’re driving can often be the most painful thing non-Tesla EV drivers experience. Even when we do find chargers, will they work? Will there be a queue?
I make a 362 mile roundtrip to see my parents in the Fiat 500e and experiment with using various CarPlay apps, as well as testing the infrastructure along a notoriously tricky stretch of motorway. Yes, there were queues.

A Better Route Planner (ABRP): v4.3.1
Plugshare: v6.20.0
WattsUp: v2.9
Shell Recharge: v9.11.1
PUMP Charging: v1.2.6
Apple Maps: iOS 16
Disclaimers:
Using Live Data (an OBD dongle) with route planning apps like ABRP and Pump make the experience much better and I’ll cover that in another video.
These apps may have been updated since I used them so improvements have probably been made. Apologies in advance to their creators if I’m showing them in a particularly bad light. I did try to edit it as quickly as possible so it’s relatively current!
Since I filmed this, Onto no longer include BP Pulse charging in their subscriptions.
