heya been a while!
I've recently had to pleasure to work on the DOYLIAH MODPACK! I've been tasked with making a Tutorial Erect remix; a cool addition for their latest pitstop update, including a neat animation from st4rcannon! You should totally go give it a download...
The director of the mod, Krimzon, came up to me after listening to Bro [MRK mix] and she really liked it which is awesome to hear. She wanted me to hop on the mod and seeing how charming their work is, I decided to join.
Now i've already made Tutorial [MRK mix] not too long ago, however that was made on a whim and I had an new idea in the back of my mind for a while now. I started by giving the song a samba piano as a base and working my way from there. It had a cool groove to it and honestly a really warm feeling which was great for a tutorial remix. Oh and also, every part of this song is progressive, not a single section repeats if you pay a close ear...
The first half is very playful and fun, with a bouncy ass beat and very goofy sounds going on. The second half of the song however sounds a bit more emotional and hopeful as I changed up the chords. It certainly gives it that almost romantic feel given that this is a BF & GF song. It felt as if boyfriend is trying his hardest to serenade and impress her. Overall I found this remix pretty damn charming!
A rule of thumb I had when making the vocals for this was to let boyfriend pop off, given this is the introduction to Erect Mode, but also making sure that he doesn't rap over GF, cause it didn't seem like something he would do... He either duets or let her have her turn so I was careful about how the two characters were presented in this song. Oh and btw, the gf voice lines were taken off a beta tutorial version off Newgrounds so it's not actually me saying that, its just Kawai Sprite!
As for this visualiser, it isn't the typical viz you're used to seeing on this channel... I got a bit creative and felt like less is better, with just having the gf & bf stickers in a white space. I then started tweening everything around as if a camcorder was recording their cute lil moment and I think it came out pretty clean! I showed Linob this and he thought it was charming so thats a win.
Anyway i'm pretty pleased with this instrumental, the vocals ain't half bad either given that I rarely do em, and this video is pretty gas. I have another song on the way for this mod, and it's pretty nuts that one.
I hope this remix fills the big Tutorial Erect shaped hole in your freeplay menu for now until we get the official one. Gonna be hush hush for now tho, look forward to whatever song comes next!
