PopcornFX v2.14 introduces Skeletal mesh particles using a new Bone Animation Textures (BATs) workflow.
This video shows a stadium in UE5 filled with particles rendered as skeletal meshes using a simplified animation state machine.
Mesh particles use distanced based LOD, switching from 3D mesh LODs up to 2D impostors.
Texture atlases can be used to handle lots of character variation while keeping draw calls count low (culling & instanced draw per character type / body part)
PopcornFX simulation framework can be leveraged to create dynamic gameplay interactions with the crowd such as localized animations.
This project was created to illustrate the new 2.14 features and PopcornFX's work-for-hire department ability to create such dynamic crowd systems for your projects.
