The celebrated Egyptian music critic Kariman Harak, the sole music critic, writer, and journalist in Egypt who is specialist in the arts of opera, ballet, classical and contemporary music, and modern dance theater since mid 1980s until now. This is a recent TV interview with her on Egyptian TV (aired on 20 November 2013), on which she comments on the currents of the music scene in Egypt as far as the opera, ballet, and "classical" music are concerned. She gives very important insights on the history of the national opera and ballet companies, the Cairo Symphony Orchestra and the great obstacles these companies have been facing over the last five decades. The interview contains a solid criticism on the condition and policies of these arts in Egypt, and the challenges of today and the future in the light of the changing and unstable political and economic situation in the country.
