How do you show you are multiplying two numbers? We have two symbols commonly used: a "x" and a "·" Careful, that second one isn't a period, although it looks like one! It should be written higher up, in the middle of a line, not down at the bottom like a period.
Ask your teacher which symbol you should use in your math class.

Did you know there's even a THIRD way to write multiplication? It's not so much a symbol, but...you can enclose numbers in parentheses and that means multiplication, too. Like this: (3)(5) means...3x5!

About this series:
Every Thursday, we're going to Math Camp! This year, we're learning about ARITHMETIC. We'll learn how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide. We'll also learn about whole numbers (integers), fractions, decimals, and complex numbers. These are topics that first come up in arithmetic, but will continue to be helpful in other math subjects like algebra, trigonometry, geometry, and more. So get yer paper and pencils and join us for a fun-filled summer! (sunscreen optional).

Don't forget to SUBSCRIBE so you don't miss a single episode! Come back each Thursday!!
