I tested the ChatGPT Excel plugin to build a debt model shell from a real lender term sheet — revolver, accordion, and term loan included.
Same prompt, same attachment I've used with Claude AI's Excel plugin.
Here's the honest breakdown of what it did well, what took forever, and how it stacks up.
📌 What I tested:
ChatGPT's plugin setup inside Microsoft Excel (via Add-ins on the Home ribbon)
Heavy processing mode on a complex debt model build
Same prompt + PDF term sheet I've used with Claude before
📌 What I found:
ChatGPT took 20+ minutes. Claude does this in 5–10.
ChatGPT never asked a single clarifying question. Claude usually does.
The output model is clean — investment banker clean — but you'll need to drop in your draw amounts, ARR, and close date manually.
Both tools get you to a working model. Speed and interactivity are where they differ.
Next video: testing codex on the same prompt.
