Why Riding with a Space Cushion Matters
A space cushion is a certain amount of distance you keep between your motorcycle and the vehicle in front of you while riding, stopped at a light or stop sign. This space will give you more options for an emergency escape route and help prevent multi-vehicle pileup collisions.
If possible, your space cushion should be one or two car lengths.
