Have you ever installed a USB device into Debian (Ubuntu) Linux and it wouldn't work? In order to use a hot swappable USB device such as the Finch robot two steps have to occur. (1) the user has to be part of the plugdev group and (2) the hot swappable device has to be tied in with the plugdev group. The Finch robot which connects to a USB port is used in this video demonstration. A user is created and assigned to the standard plugdev group. After obtaining device information a udev file is written for the Finch robot device and the Finch robot is tied into the plugdev group. Finally software is downloaded from www.finchrobot.com and demonstrated running the Finch robot.Although this video shows a Finch robot, the first two steps above would apply to any hot swappable USB device.
