Torque is a physical quantity that describes the rotational force exerted on an object to rotate it around a pivot point. It's what causes an object to rotate or spin.
Imagine you want to open a door around its hinges. If you push the door at the outer edge, it's harder to open. But if you push the door near the hinge, it's much easier to move. This is because torque depends on the distance from the axis of rotation.
Torque is measured in Newton meters (Nm). It depends on two factors: the applied force and the distance from the axis of rotation. The greater the applied force and the further it is from the axis of rotation, the greater the torque.
Mathematically, torque can be calculated using the formula: Torque = Force × Distance.
Torque is an important quantity in physics and engineering, especially in mechanics, for understanding the strength and efficiency of rotational movements, whether when working with tools and machines, or in everyday life when opening doors, screwing caps, or operating vehicles.
