Heart failure can occur when the heart is unable to pump blood (systolic) or fill with blood (diastolic) adequately.
Symptoms include shortness of breath, fatigue, swollen legs, and rapid heartbeat.
Treatment may include limited salt and fluid intake, as well as the use of prescription medications. In some cases, a defibrillator or pacemaker may be implanted.
