Shadow of Rome for PS2 is an action-stealth video game developed by Capcom for the PlayStation 2. Released in 2005, the plot is set in 44 BC, shortly after the assassination of Julius Caesar.
Agrippa, a brave Roman centurion whose father has been wrongly accused of Caesar's assassination, is forced to become a gladiator to gain popularity and eventually free his father.
There is a second protagonist, Octavian, a young and cunning friend of Agrippa, nephew of Julius Caesar, who dedicates himself to investigating and discovering his uncle's true murderer through stealth missions and intelligence gathering.
For its time, Shadow of Rome was critically praised, especially for its depictions of Roman architecture and life. The combat arenas and the details of the weapons and armor were well-executed. The soundtrack complemented the action with epic and tense music, fitting the game's atmosphere. While it wasn't a massive commercial success, it did garner a dedicated fan base and became a cult title among fans of historical action-adventure games. Its focus on the brutality of gladiatorial combat and detailed depiction of ancient Rome have kept it a cherished memory among players who experienced it on the PS2.
