Getting around the "Code 1" error in Bazzite and other Atomic Desktops when trying to re-install
Note: This guide only applies for the Bazzite Legacy ISO images. If you are getting a code 1 error in the new live Bazzite ISO images then this guide will most likely not assist you.
Fixing "Code 1" error and you haven't install Bazzite or a Fedora based OS before. Check the full error message first. If it mentions IO or Read errors, your ISO is likely corrupted.
Compare your ISO hash to the one on the Bazzite website. Re-download if it doesn't match.
Re-flash your USB and ensure you safely eject it before unplugging.
If you using Rufus or Ventory, try Etcher or Fedora Media Writer
If it persists, try a different USB port or a different flash drive entirely.
If none of the above works log a support ticket in bazzite-help on the Bazzite discord, they may have additional things for you to try. Make sure you take a screenshot and include the text of the full error message for debugging purposes.
In this guide we'll be removing the invalid fedora entry in the efi partition to get Bazzite and other atomic desktops to install after attempting to reinstall them. (fixed the audio)
Edit: Note that you might also get this error if you previously installed Fedora workstation or Nobara and you have kept your existing efi partition on the disk.
Second note: if you have an NVME disk rather than an SSD the drive that you need to look at will probably be something like /dev/nvme0n1p1 rather than /dev/sda
