THE FINAL WORD: If you’re a street, landscape or lifestyle portrait photographer who also happens to be an M43 shooter, then there’s definitely a place in your bag for the 12mm f/2 from Olympus. Complete with great optics, great build, a snappy and refined AF/MF clutch mechanism, and super fast and accurate focus - there’s a lot to love about the 12mm from Olympus. On the downside, coming in between $699 - $799 - depending on whether it’s on sale - the 12mm does in fact come in a bit higher than the bulk of the prosumer primes from Olympus and if you really like this focal length, you may want to consider the 12-40mm f/2.8 PRO, granted, you give up a bit of aperture, but you gain a lot more flexibility, and it’s only a couple of hundred dollars more. Just the same, the 12mm f/2 prime is yet another lightweight optical powerhouse in the Olympus consumer prime lens legacy.
