I cover the basics of sculpting in cinema4D in this video. I don't just raw sculpt from a sphere, I build out the body from objects, then I volume mesh it, and then run a retopo command on it. It makes the following sculpting process much smoother.
I also go on about the usefulness of sculpt layers and some other tips and tricks!
