In a 12th-century Japanese scroll, birth is depicted as so deadly that it's believed to summon evil spirits that appear in near-death situations. This deadly depiction is intended to make the birthing person experience unbearable pain. Yes, we suffer, but despite this, we continue to give birth. Because we exist because we reproduce.
Cesarean sections were first used thousands of years ago to reduce both maternal and infant mortality rates. And indeed, C-sections significantly reduced maternal mortality rates. However, today, this practice has become so common that one in five babies is born by C-section. C-section births, especially in our country, are increasing uncontrollably.
So why has natural birth, which has been preferred since the beginning of humanity, fallen out of favor? Is the rise of C-sections to the top a mere industrial ploy? How can women achieve the easiest and safest experience?
TVNET X producer Sümeyye Gökyar, Obstetrician and Gynecologist Op. Dr. She discussed "Birth" in a new episode of Holistik, which also featured expert Ayşe Duman.
