Let's finish setting up this obsolete remote control for use with Kodi on a Raspberry Pi.

The basic idea is to combine the Kodi or XBMC controller preset keymap definitions with the Kodi Keyboard Controls information and use the Flirc Keyboard Controller to map remote control buttons to the desired Kodi keyboard keyboard shortcuts:

Flirc controller presets:

Mixing and matching Flirc "controllers" is fine and this is why you do it. You could also mess around with the keymap settings inside Kodi, but why not make the remote speak Kodi instead of the other way around. And with this approach, I can move that Flirc receiver and remote to any of my RPi/Kodi systems and it'll work as-is.

So in my earlier RPi/Kodi videos, I've showed how to use the TV's HDMI-CEC conpatible remote to control Kodi:
   • Kodi HDMI-CEC - Live TV Remote Control
Then in my Rise of the Phoenix video series, I showed how to share a non-CEC remote with Kodi:
   • Rise of the Phoenix, Remote Control
and now how to use a separate remote with Kodi. So that should cover most of the remote control options for a Raspberry Pi with Kodi. There is another option, that being to use a tablet or phone to control Kodi via an app. If there is interest, I can show that as well.

Questions welcome in the comments section below. As always, thanks for watching!
