Heat sinks are also attached to the microchips to help to dissipate the heat that is produced by the high electric current inside the microchips. The heat sinks increase the microchips' surface areas which enhance the cooling by convection conduction of the heat from the microchips by allowing more area to conduct and dissipate the heat as airflow from the cooling fan takes the heat away.
