I built a compact 3-node cluster using old ThinkPad L380 laptop motherboards and a custom 3D printed frame.
The whole thing runs from a single power supply and was built mainly because I wanted to learn more about clusters and Proxmox despite not fully knowing what a cluster actually does when I started.
In this video I go through:
Designing the frame in Fusion 360
Powering the boards using USB-C PD trigger boards
3D printing and assembling everything
Wiring up the power system
Fixing mistakes along the way
and seeing if the whole thing actually turns on without exploding
This is the first video in the cluster project — next step is figuring out what to actually run on it.
