Colombian President Gustavo Petro reported that his country is being bombed from Ecuador, mentioning the discovery of a bomb dropped from an airplane on the border between the two countries. Petro confirmed that an investigation is underway to clarify the facts and reiterated his suspicion that armed groups are not the only ones involved in these attacks.
Despite the gravity of the situation, the president asserted that he does not want a war and revealed that he requested the intervention of US President Donald Trump to facilitate a dialogue with Ecuadorian President Daniel Noboa. This statement comes in the context of a trade war that began in January, when Ecuador imposed a 30% tariff on Colombian products in response to the alleged lack of Colombian action against drug trafficking along the border.
Petro emphasized the importance of respecting national sovereignty and the need to make decisions following the investigation that determined the bomb found is active and poses a danger.
