These are the fighters that just couldn’t be contained by one fighting form - the greatest crossover athletes in UFC history.
And for the criteria - we’re judging fighters based on their UFC run, who have come from worldwide renown within a combat sport that is competed within on a major scale.
That means we’re not going in for those fighters who may have tried boxing pro for a while or done well regionally - we’re not even talking about those who wrestled collegiately but didn’t extend their career beyond that.
We’re looking at decorated black-belt competitors, former Olympians, pro-kickboxers, etc - who have transitioned to MMA and eventually, the UFC with huge success after original careers that would have been worthy of the highest praise if they had retired there and then.
Just to be clear, it’s not as simple as ‘is fighter A better than fighter B’ - it’s about the bigger picture of their career as a whole - just keep that in mind.
We’re going to leave any honourable mentions to your own imagination - aside from this one, Mark Coleman… so with that out of the way, let’s take a look at how these 12 fighters stack up!
