The Zoom function in iOS8
In this video, I will demonstrate the zoom function in iOS8. In one of my previous videos, I demonstrated all of the features in the vision part of the accessibility menu in iOS8 and I created another video in which I focused specifically on the VoiceOver function.
The zoom function can be accessed by selecting the Settings Menu, then General, then Accessibility, then Zoom.
You can see that there is a button here on the right to turn it on with a brief overview of the main commands. Read them out...So lets just make sure that we turn the zoom function on.
So let us have a look at the zoom function in more detail.
A little strangely, I want to start at the bottom of the screen. Maximum Zoom Level is an option that enables you to customise the maximum level of zoom or magnification that you require. It goes from x1.2 up to x15.
Different levels of zoom can still be selected, this option just sets the maximum.
At the bottom of the screen, is a option labelled Zoom Region. You can choose to zoom in on the entire screen or to have a floating window (similar to a magnifying glass) that zooms in whilst the rest of the display is untouched.
Let us examine these two different options, again on the Internet.
Halfway down the zoom menu is the "Show Controller" option. Show Controller adds a button or joystick on screen, like so, that provides quick access to the most important zoom functions, such as....This controller remains on the screen for whatever app you are on. Let's have a look at it on the Internet...
Also when show controller is switched on a further option becomes available. Idle Visibility allows you to customise the opaqueness of the button, from being dark grey to almost transparent.
Follow Focus is an option that I am not sure that I fully understand and if any of you can help with a better definition then add it into the comments!
Having looked into it, follow focus is a feature that zooms in on any text that you are writing. Also when follow focus is switched on, another option becomes available- Zoom Keyboard, which will zoom into the part of the keyboard that you are typing it at any moment in time.
