Double treat for royal fans Saturday in London: Prince George of Cambridge joined his family for the first time on the Buckingham Palace balcony, greeting a thrilled crowd with a royal wave.
It happened at the end of the annual Trooping the Color parade, as his mum, Duchess Kate of Cambridge, made her first appearance in public since little Princess Charlotte was born on May 2.
As his family left the palace — father Prince William on a horse wearing a bearskin cap, mother in a horse-drawn carriage — George was spotted by photographers in his nanny's arms, laughing and excited from a palace window.
At the end of the parade of military troops, horses, bands and royal carriages, the little future king, who turns 2 next month, joined the entire royal family on the balcony, waving in the arms of his father, as his mother, grandfather Prince Charles and his great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, stood nearby, watching the traditional RAF fly-past.
In one picture, the royal succession was displayed for a cheering, excited crowd. The only one missing: Princess Charlotte, the fourth-in-line, who is only six weeks old and not yet ready for royal duties.
But everyone else, including the queen, appeared delighted. George, dressed in light blue, was especially interested in the roaring jets overhead.
It was the fifth consecutive year the duchess has taken part in the colorful parade, which marks the official celebration of the queen's birthday.
Like last year, she traveled the parade route in a horse-drawn carriage, accompanied by brother-in-law Prince Harry and stepmother-in-law Camilla Duchess of Cornwall.
She was slender and glowing, dressed in ice blue-and-ivory floral silk coatdress by Catherine Walker, topped with an ivory round hat with a curled feather, according to the blogs that track her style.
Husband Prince William, in military dress uniform and a bearskin hat, rode a horse (named Wellesley, according to the palace) in the procession, along with his father, Prince Charles, and his aunt, Princess Anne the Princess Royal.
Trooping the Color is the colorful and crowded ceremony, dating back centuries, in which about 1,000 British soldiers, horses and bands parade in their dress uniforms with their regiments and their regimental flags (the "colors") past the sovereign for review.

Prince William rode on earlier on horse-back with his father Prince Charles.
