This racing Timeline shows the most popular websites by monthly visitors or hits over 2 decades from 2000 to this year 2020.
The first website started in August 1991. It was dedicated to information on the World Wide Web project and was made by Tim Berners-Lee.
When it started, it was just the input of information and data and it is hard to think that there were no social media like what we have today - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest. Neither was there any streaming videos on YouTube. Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the founders of Google were struggling to craft out what Google is today.
Aren't we glad that we have the internet as it is today? Wonder what will be the next big thing a decade from now?
