In this video 4 examples how to best use blue screen and green screen. Examples with: 2 images, 2 videos, 1 image and 1 video. Explanations and tricks to make your computer screen transparent in a video.
The chroma key or chromatic key is a magical and fascinating side of editing. Also known as green screen or blue screen, it is one of the techniques used to create overlay effects of two different images, or two different videos. With this technique you can remove the background color of the first image, and replace it with any other image, as in the case of the weather forecast television broadcasts. The special effects based on this principle are: the keying effect, such as the luma key or luminance key and the matte effect.
The chroma key technique had a first version with blue back (blue screen) thanks to which scenes with the actors were integrated with scenes shot elsewhere. Since 1970 the blue screen has been gradually replaced by the green screen (color code: Pantone 354 green), more suitable for digital cameras.
In the cinema, the key color technique has been used in the past especially for low-cost films, due to the great quality limits of this technique:
even in ideal conditions, it is not precise enough in cropping the edges of the images, which change slightly from one frame to another giving rise to an annoying flickering;
it imposes flat lighting on the foreground subject, forcing it to lose any semblance of thickness or three-dimensionality;
it is necessary to adopt particular criteria for the lighting of the sets, often sacrificing them, so that the image of the subject can merge convincingly with the background.
For all these reasons, this technique is usually used for distant backdrops, contour or context, in the background (or beyond) with respect to real elements that fill a first background of the scene, if they are therefore more in focus and less in contrast with the edge accuracy.
