Last winter I remember watching a scene from the movie where some cool kids somehow appeared in the middle of desert. Suddenly I realized that every time I see a scene like this, there is no transition from land to desert, desert always just appears on the screen. So I wondered how does the "enter" to desert look like and started imagining.
Then the story of the song just appeared in my mind. I wrote about a man who travels across a hot hot sandy land. He is searching for his own identity points, he is searching for his motherland. Almost all of us at some point start to explore our inner deserts; even if it's very hot, we keep on searching the true that makes us real.
The traveller in this song realizes that he wants to live making other people happy, but first he has to love and respect himself. That's why he chooses honesty first of all. Being honest to himself and listening to his heart's voice very carefully.

Прошлой зимой я смотрел фильм про "The Doors", и один эпизод меня неожиданно взволновал: сцена в пустыне. Ни с того, ни с сего ребята появились посреди земли бескрайних песков. Я поймал себя на мысли, что ни разу не видел грани между землей и пустыней ни в фильмах, ни в жизни, и мне интересно узнать как выглядит этот самый переход между породами.
Проснувшись с мыслью "где же начинается пустыня" я отчетливо представил себе историю, о которой идет речь в песне. "Where The Desert Starts" - это монолог человека, который покинул свои обыденные земли и тронулся в путь по горячей и бескрайней пустыне, чтобы без лишних препятствий и отвлекающих условий увидеть истинного себя, хоть солнце в пути и печет дьявольски. Он осознает, что одна из главных целей его жизни - делать счастливыми людей, но без любви и уважения к самому себе этого не выйдет. Человек выбирает первостепенной установкой быть честным по отношению к самому себе и прислушиваться к внутреннему голосу как главному ориентиру. Что и приводит его к желаемому пункту назначения.
