Kindling is key for starting a fire quickly and easily - in my opinion. I will still use a quality fire starter, but also 5-6 pieces of kindling to initially start the fire. Starting the fire with nice small kindling, produces small coals quickly so you can add the larger pieces of firewood and get a hot fire with less waiting. I've found kindling to be even more important when lighting a smokeless fire pit such as the Breeo. I start those with a "log cabin" of kindling probably 10-15 pieces and we have a smokeless fire roaring in no time.

Some may think the Kindling Cracker is counter-intuitive. Using two tools (the hammer and the cracker) instead of one - a hatchet. However, I always know where my Kindling Cracker is. Bolted to a stump, ready for action. It is easy for myself, my wife, and even my kids to use - safely. In this video you can see I made a bucket full of kindling in about 10 minutes. And this will last us at least a week or two of starting fires in the wood stove.
