How I do my job searches?
Finding gigs is a gig in itself! I usually spend 4 to 8 hours daily searching and applying for gigs until I find one that I like that has a work-life balance (no to low stress). At times when time is not on my side, I usually have to settle for gigs that pay less than minimum wage as long as it pays the bills.
Virtual Work:
Working in a virtual world has appealed to me ever since I was a 'chappie'. The only drawback for me is at times when I do not talk to clients I might find myself in sleepville which means that production might fail on your end, but other than that I'm at peace with it.
Great Job Search Site:
Indeed.com is the best job search site that I have found. There are tons of job sites but they are not what one would call traditional, because those other job search sites that I use are solely for independent contractors' type of work. Since I don't mind getting paid less so that at the end of the year I do not owe those other sites help me to gain more freelance work or clients. Freelance and contractors workers get paid more upfront in exchange for handling their own taxes at the end of the year.
Obstacles:
Background noise, and not being able to control loud exhaust pipes, mufflers, ambulance sirens, etc... which is a requirement for most at-home call center gigs.***Work around- master your headset mute button. Virtual office software system learning curve.
Reliable equipment and internet, I have to log into my pc up to one hour before I have to go to work to make sure that all my updates and pc work. I spend more money on my internet versus my mobile device to make sure that I have reliable internet. I am always hard-wired.
Say Cheese:
The higher-paying employers what to see you cam up on webcam. I usually wear a black hair bonnet and a black shirt, so that I am ready to simply work on schedule.
Office Politics:
Communication is hard with children, so with adults, it can be a hit or miss as well. I try to figure out what's the upper management culture already on the screen before I make any comments that might bite later. In worse-case scenario, never walk off, simply quick once you get off for that day and put it in a letter.
Work History and Background Checks:
I make sure to only disclose what I can prove (work history), and what I know (background check). Temporary unfreeze your credit report so that you don't loss out on good gigs. Be prepared to take a drug screening even if the gig is virtual.
