You should received a set of three 58mm diameter star filters: a 4 point, 6 point, and 8 point filter. I couldn't use the 8 point filter because it was damaged in shipping but the other two filters were fine. These filters have etched grid lines that fracture bright light spots causing them to show a "star" pattern. Like any standard lens filter, one side has male threads and the other female threads so they can be attached to lenses and nested with other filters. The thread size is accurate and it screwed onto my Canon T3i lens/filters without a problem.
Each bright light source in your images will have the corresponding number of lines extending from it and fading outward. You can change the position of the lines by rotating the filter, but every star will be oriented in the same direction. What I found was that the more lights you have in your image, the noisier it looks as the number of star points increases. With a single brighter light source, the effect is more intense and you can nest filters together you can create interesting combinations of lines. However, any time you stack filters you may experience some ghosting and lens flares. Overall, the star filters worked as advertised and create a nice effect in photos with brights lights in dark scenes.
