As a woman who was born and raised in Tokyo, I have seen and experienced the uncomfortable nature and deep rooted issues regarding sexual violence in Japan. In this video, I highlight the recent legal reform of the age of consent, which was 13 in Japan for over a century, finally being changed to 16 in 2023. Again, my intention with this video is to spark difficult, but necessary, conversations around this subject and to bring more light to the reality of this issue.
