Driving through the Turkish village of Güllubahçe (Güiiübahçe), we saw a sign for Aziz Nikolaos Kilisesi and, of course, we couldn't pass by. Everyone knows the church of St. Nicholas in Demre. It turns out that here, on the Aegean coast of Turkey, not far from Izmir, there is another one. Unfortunately, the temple is under threat of demolition.
It was built by the Greeks in 1821, when this village was called Gelebeç.
Here, in the courtyard of the church, we made a shocking discovery - an ossuary, a special place where the bones of the dead were thrown when old Christian cemeteries were cleared for new burials.
