Rule 21. Definition. Part C – Lights and Shapes.
1. Define "Masthead Light"?
"Masthead Light" is a white light placed on the fore-and-aft centreline of the vessel, showing an unbroken light over an arc of the horizon of 225° and so fixed as to show the light from right ahead to 22.5° abaft the beam on each side.
2. Define "Sidelights"
"Sidelights" are a green light on the starboard side and a red light on the port side; Each of these lights shows an uninterrupted light over an arc of the horizon of 112.5° and is so fixed as to show the light from right ahead to 22.5° abaft the beam on the corresponding side. On a vessel less than 20 m in length, the sidelights may be combined in a single lantern, displayed on the vessel's centerline.
3. What is the definition of "sternlight"?
A "sternlight" is a white light, placed as far as practicable as the stern, showing an uninterrupted light over an arc of the horizon of 135° and so fixed as to show the light from right ahead to 67.5° on each side.
4. What is the definition of "towing light"?
A "towing light" is a yellow light having the same characteristics as a "sternlight."
5. What is the definition of "all-round light"?
An "all-round light" is a light that illuminates a 360° arc of the horizon with an uninterrupted light.
