Jomsom town “Gateway to Tibet” is the first episode of the “Mustang: travelling in time” documentary series (with English captions). A Russian traveler will start out from the city of Pokhara in Nepal. This is the only place from which one can get to the mysterious town of Jomsom, the “gateway” to Mustang and Tibet. But some adventures lie ahead for him…

The town is located in the valley of the Kali-Gandaki river in the Himalayas at the altitude of 2770 meters above sea level. It’s population is around 1370 people. In spite of the highland, local villagers grow great-tasting apples and peaches, from which, among other things, they make excellent spirits. Also, many trekking routs pass through this town. Jomsom has an airport and a training base for the Nepalese alpine rangers.

About the series:
A renowned Russian traveler Sergei Vertelov, president of the “Himalayan club” will be travelling in time. He is on a solo journey to the kingdom of Mustang, lost high in the Himalayas, a place as mysterious as it is isolated from the rest of the world. He will visit secluded places of the region, some of which have never seen a tourist and have very rarely been filmed. Sergei will see the ancient fortress of Toma Som and explore the lost villages of lower Mustang where nothing has changed for many decades. Maybe this is why time stopped here so long ago….
