Why Did SpongeBob Parody Uzumaki?
SpongeBob SquarePants Uzumaki is real. In a new post from SpongeBob's official Twitter account, SpongeBob's eye turns into a spiral as a horrifying fate awaits him. This is a direct reference to Junji Ito's horror masterpiece of a manga, Uzumaki. It's also definitely not for kids.
Because it's Halloween, the SpongeBob Twitter account wanted to shake things up with a spooky reference to a horror manga. The main confusion here lies in the difference between these franchises; one is a family-friendly world filled with fun underwater creatures... while the other includes some of the most gruesome panels in manga history. Why did SpongeBob have this small crossover with Junji Ito's magnum opus?
