I did a video last year about post hole diggers and I had a request from a viewer who wanted the dimensions of the stand that I have that keeps mine upright. I'm sorry its taken me this long, but I'm glad to provide the details in this video.

Post hole diggers are a very handy tool, but really hard to store, hook up, and move around. The weight is way up high at the gearbox and they tend to want to fall on you. If you've ever tried to load one in a pickup, LOOK OUT! If you law them on their side, they'll try to uncoil and come after you, your feet and your fingers can be in real danger. Someday when you try this you'll know exactly what I mean.

Anyway, a guy I used to work with designed this post hole digger stand and he gave it to me because he got a different auger and it no longer fit the stand. The stand holds the auger upright and won't let the rest of the machine tip over. It's as good a design as I've seen and it's light enough that you can move the stand around when the post hole digger is not in it. The only thing I'd change about it, I'm thinking about making a platform with heavy wheels to go under it so I can move it around. But, it would take up a lot more space in the barn, so it may never happen. Being able to move the post hole digger would be a huge advantage when hooking up because that's kind of a chore in itself...I've done a video that I'll post soon that shows why.

If you show this video to someone who is a good welder, they could probably whip something like this out in under an hour out of scrap material they have laying around. It's a lot better than having the thing hanging from your rafters or a tree!
