Bass Reeves was probably the inspiration for the Lone Ranger.
He was born a slave and escaped during the Civil War and fled into Indain Teritory he lived with the different tribes and learned several of their languages
He was enlisted in the US Marshall's as a Deputy US Marshal and was the first Black Deputy US Marshall west of the Mississippi River!
He had over 75,000 squares miles of Indian territory to patrol! This was where all of the Outlaws fled to.
He arrested over 3000 felons and shot 14 men in self defense. Although his hat and belt were both shot off he was never wounded. He served for 32 years!
His own Son was wanted for murdering his wife and Bass Reeves brought him in to stand trial. He was convicting served 11 years at Leavenworth and was released and lived an exemplary life after that.
Bass Reeves was one Tough and Honest Law Man! His Great, Great, Great Grandson plays Pro Hocky, Ryan Reaves.
The name is spelled different because Ryan's Grandfather added an A .
Looks like he's Tough just like Granddad!
