What should a backend developer know to get a job in 2024?

Knowledge of programming fundamentals (variables, data structures, flow control, algorithms, relational databases, etc.)
SOLID design patterns and principles (not just MVC and OOP)
Restful. How to consume and create APIs
DB connections and the active record pattern (check which ORM your language uses)
Internalize clean code
Learn diagramming and UML
The basics of software architecture
SQL (or non-SQL, as the case may be), not to become a DBA, but to at least know how to do queries with joins and groupings
The lifecycle of a website
The HTTP protocol
A little (rather moderate) knowledge of web security
Testing (Unit, TDD, BDD, etc.)
Practice lots and lots of logic
