Pocket MIDI Controller & Son of Pocket MIDI Controller
This video is a documentary about two electronic music tools I designed in the late 1980s.
The Pocket MIDI Controller was designed as part of a build-it article for Electronic Musician magazine (it was published), which was itself a follow-on to my earlier published article on building MIDI switchers in the same magazine.
The Son of Pocket MIDI Controller was intended to be an all-in-one tool for electronic musicians, incorporating the features of the Pocket MIDI Controller, and electronic "pitch pipe", a MIDI tone generator, a MIDI channel diagnostic feature, and a pocket sized utility amplifier that could be used to test the output of electronic musical instruments and could even work as a low power guitar amplifier. This was intended to be produced as either a kit, or as a commercial product, but it never really got beyond the prototype stage.
