The story is told from the perspective of ordinary workers who are there to maintain the bases, in some of the harshest conditions on the planet.

Film crews are usually only given the opportunity to visit Antarctica during a few short months of summer. This film compiles footage meticulously shot over 15 years, including nine winters isolated from the rest of the world, in unimaginable cold and around-the-clock darkness that sometimes lasted for months. For the first time, we are part of a long-standing human experience, witnessing stunning visual wonders and the emotionally inspiring journey of a year on ice.
Filmmaker Anthony Powell has contributed to numerous films and television shows around the world, most recently featuring his footage in the BBC series Frozen Planet. This is his first feature film. Final picture quality adjustments and surround sound mixing were completed at Park Road Post Production.
