I recently found myself again in the process of searching for an art style that I liked for my new improved Animation YouTube channel. And doing that reminded me of the first time I actively tried to develop an art style for my illustrations in a short film, book series and for art to sell at Comic Cons.
So I decided to sort of Steal Pantsless Pajamas idea to immitate a bunch of other youtube animators like Odd1sout, Gingerpale, AmyRightMeow, Draw with Jazza, Domics, Cartoon Hooligans, TimTom, RushLight Invader and more for my weekly video. And It made sense for this video because one of the best ways to develop your arts style as an animator, illustrator, painter or whatever kind of art, is to copy other artists you like. You should even try copying art in styles you don’t think you’d like to draw as.
See, despite being a huge fan of gritty comic artists like Jim Lee and Mark Bagley, I decided to try drawing in some cartoonier styles like that of Teen Titans Go, Spectacular Spider-man and the Chibi Style of Derek Laufman. And it turned out, I LOVE drawing cartoons! And I can draw and animate cartoons a lot faster and better than I could in the more detailed comic style.
