Yes, it's true—both VoIP phone systems and PBX phone systems both require server space. The difference, however, is where that server is kept.
Anyone up for a game of ping-pong?

Hi, there! I’m Telecom Tim from JD Young. In today’s episode, we’re going to bust another telecom myth.
Myth number six: Premises-based systems and cloud-based voice-over-IP are both essentially the same because they both require a server to process calls and other information.
Truth: Close, but no cigar. A cloud-based phone system only requires an internet connection at the location of the user as the cloud host company houses and maintains the server. An on-premises system, however, requires rack space, cooling, and power at the phone user’s business location to house and maintain a physical server. Use that room at your office for ping-pong table instead!
There you have it — another myth BUSTED. Stay tuned as we bust more telecom myths in coming episodes. You can also learn more at JDYoung.com.Tell ‘em Telecom Tim sent ya!
