We continue our discussion of the most rebellious school of thought in modern philosophy, the "philosophy of life," founded by A. Schopenhauer. His ideas were continued by the celebrated Friedrich Nietzsche, whose views continue to this day. Why, born into a Lutheran pastor's family, did he become such a staunch critic of Christianity? Why does his name often evoke associations with Nazism? Why do his statements about women sometimes border on sexism, and sometimes on feminism? And could his Superman become the ideal we should all aspire to? Of course, everyone will answer these questions differently, as Nietzsche spoke aphoristically and often contradicted himself. I will discuss my understanding of the teachings of this philosopher-poet.
