Jolly Phonics Group 4 introduces 6 new sounds. Most of them are digraphs (two letters making one sound).
1. ai – as in snail
Sound: /ai/
Action: Cup hands behind ears as if listening to the sound in the word train.
2. j – as in jug
Sound: /j/
Action: Pretend to wobble on jelly by pretending your body is shaky.
3. oa – as in goat
Sound: /oa/
Action: Bring hand up to mouth as if you are yawning and say “oa”.
4. ie – as in tie
Sound: /ie/
Action: Point to your eye.
5. ee – as in sheep
Sound: /ee/
Action: Put hands on top of your head to make “ears” of a donkey and bray “ee–or”.
6. or – as in fork
Sound: /or/
Action: Put hands on the head as if they are donkey’s ears and say “or-or”.
