In the lead up to the 77th United Nations General Assembly, UNDP in partnership with GitHub launched the beta version of the Digital Development Compass, a new tool that aggregates publicly available data on countries’ digital development in one place. The tool uses UNDP's whole-of-society approach and country experience to assess countries' efforts in inclusive digital transformation. It also identifies gaps and recommends improvements to make this transformation easier and faster.
The beta launch was kicked off by a keynote speech by H.E. Iurie Țurcanu, Moldova's Deputy Prime Minister on Digitalization. He underlined the benefits of harnessing data to accelerate national digital transformation efforts. The event also included a panel discussion on Using Data to Accelerate National Digital Transformation Agendas. The panel was composed of: Alex Wong Chief Special Initiatives Office of the Director, BDT, International Telecommunication Union; Yu Ping Chan, Senior Programme Officer, Office of the Secretary-General's Envoy on Technology; and Mala Kumar, Director of Tech for Social Good, GitHub.
