Windows 10 and Windows 11 both support this built-in backup system, and once enabled, it can make switching to a new PC or resetting Windows much easier.

With Windows Backup turned on, you can safely synchronize and store your installed Microsoft Store apps, plus your system preferences: everything from your Wi‑Fi passwords, keyboard and language settings, personalization (wallpaper, themes, Start menu layout), notification settings, and accessibility options.

This means after a fresh Windows install — or on a new device — Windows can restore these settings automatically once you sign in with the same Microsoft Account, without having to remember them manually.
Important note: this backup does not upload or store your personal files — like Documents, Pictures, Videos, or any third‑party software data — unless you separately back them up (for example to OneDrive or an external drive). Windows Backup is designed for settings and app‑list only, not full data backup.
