How to Unlock a Write Protected USB Drive, a SD or Micro SD Memory Card or a Hard Drive
If you get an error " The Disk is Write Protected" on your SD or Micro SD Memory Card or a Hard Drive so this video will help you.
Unlock the device by using the command prompt:
1. Launch the Command prompt as Administrator.
2. Type in the command “Diskpart” and press Enter.
3. Type in “list disk” and press Enter.
4. Find the drive number corresponding to your flash drive, memory card or hard drive. When doing it, the drive size will help you. Type in “select disk” and the number of the disk that corresponds to the device and press Enter.
5. Type in “attributes disk clear read-only” and press Enter. This will unlock the device for writing.
Cleaning and Formatting the drive:
1. Type in “clean” and press Enter - it will delete all data on this drive including service information.
2. Type in “create partition primary” and press Enter - it creates a new partition.
3. Then type in “select partition 1” and press Enter.
4. Type in “active” and press Enter and the new partition will become active.
5. Then type in “format fs=fat32 quick” and press Enter - it will format the device in FAT32 format.
6. After that, type in “assign” and press Enter to give the flash drive a letter name.
There are several methods to unlock a write-protected USB drive, SD or micro SD memory card, or hard drive, depending on the cause of the write protection. Here are some common solutions:
1. Remove physical write protection switch: If the device has a physical switch, make sure it is switched to the unlock position.
2. Check file system: Make sure the file system of the device is not damaged. If it is, format the device to repair it.
3. Remove write protection using diskpart: Open the command prompt as administrator and type "diskpart". Then type "attributes disk clear readonly" to remove the write protection.
4. Registry edit: If the write protection is caused by a registry key, you can remove it by editing the registry.
5. Check for virus: If the write protection is caused by a virus, you need to run a virus scan and remove the virus.
6. Update device firmware: If the write protection is caused by outdated firmware, update the firmware to the latest version.
Note: Before attempting any of these methods, make sure to backup your data as it may be lost during the process.
