What is SYSVOL :
Set of files and folders that reside on the local hard disk of each domain controller in a domain and that are replicated by the File Replication service (FRS)/Distributed File System Replication (DFSR).
Network clients access the contents of the SYSVOL folder.
File Replication Service VS Distributed File System Replication :
File Replication Service (FRS) came into the picture with Windows Server 2000. Microsoft was using FRS to replicate the SYSVOL between its domain controller members. Later on, with Windows Server 2008, Microsoft introduced Distributed File System Replication (DFSR) that was able to replicate SYSVOL.
