I'll take you step-by-step through the process of putting together and animating a cloud scene in After Effects. The strategy involves controlling many (hundreds if you like) randomly placed images in a virtual 3D space. Once the first image is set up the the rest is easy. You can automatically, randomly place the following images. If you want your scenes to take on a look of vast spaces and still have lots of control for fine tuning and tweaking she scene, this is the way to go.
